Porta Verona, Peschiera

A competition of ideas for the selection of a sketch of the lost effigy of the Lion of St. Mark for Porta Verona in Peschiera del Garda, a Unesco World Heritage Site since 2017.

The competition allowed students to test their representational skills on the basis of studies and historical-iconographic insights aimed at obtaining a design proposal as faithful as possible to the original.

Camilla Biancotto, a student of Restoration, was the winner of the first prize, and her sketch, re-adapted and made to full scale by the sculptor Matteo Cavaioni, was positioned in the original location from which it had been missing for over 200 years.
