The XIV Edition of VeronaRisuona, the annual Festival of sound art and urban spaces in Verona, has been conceived as a tribute to Alan Turing, English mathematician, computer scientist, logician, cryptanalyst and philosopher.
Signs. Messages. Information. Life is a continuous flow of communication. But not all of them can be interpreted using the same code. More importantly, not all codes are explicit and public. Some may be encrypted, secret, hidden or little known. Anagrams. The jargon of the mafia. The secret codes of spies. Dream symbolism. Dadaist phonetic poems. Imaginary languages (e.g. Tolkien's Elvish). The use of style in youth subcultures. The ineffability of contemporary art. Computer programming languages. Each of these examples alludes to the existence of something that, for various reasons, cannot be said explicitly in ordinary language (due to fear, censorship, modesty, shyness, specialism, stigmatization, psychoanalytic suppression, etc. etc.). And it is therefore forced to remain hidden between the folds of life, art and narratives.
