The new practice-based research project D3VeRo explores the innovation potential of new technologies in the Murano glass sector by offering design and visual arts professionals a critical framework and material resources to focus on specific research, development and project topics.
The project responds to recent changes in the industry's production processes due to increasingly competitive markets and the global health emergency.
As part of this change, the single research areas are coming together in new spaces of confrontation and collaboration, such as online networks and digital knowledge transfer, with the aim of proposing innovative solutions able to renew the Murano glass supply chain.
The D3VeRo research platform is part of this framework and involves different enabling technologies within the smart specializations "Smart Manufacturing" and "Creative Industries", as well as leading exponents in the field of research and industrial implementation. Bringing together artistic research, traditional craftsmanship, additive technologies and materials engineering applied to the molds used in glass fusion, it experiments with new production processes to increase the freedom and flexibility of production in terms of size and expressive possibilities.
The project offers a proactive environment to reflect critically on the significant changes affecting the Murano glass industry, to discuss and develop research by experimenting with the use of emerging technologies, and to reflect on and transform participants’ own positions as producers, project managers, artists, designers and more generally as bearers and agents of economic, political and aesthetic developments.
Thanks to an interdisciplinary approach based on the association of two fields, that of research on creative languages and that of new technologies for materials, glass is the starting point of the project. A necessary resource to investigate both the practical knowledge and the role of its culture in understanding, representing and reflecting on society and its profound contemporary transformations.
